2010 World Cup Qualifying games do not come bigger than this for any team. With only 2 games left to play, Northern Ireland defied expectations and sit second in group 3. The leaders are Slovakia, who Northern Ireland entertain tonight. A win for Northern Ireland will put them top of the group, although Slovakia will have a game in hand. If it all goes pear shaped for the Irish team then they will know their main rivals for the possible playoff position from tonight’s other group 3 game.

Although Wales will not qualify for the 2010 World Cup, they have had a decent campaign. Tonight they host Russia, who have a great chance of making next year’s finals. Wales will throw everything they have at Russia but it may not be enough. The Wales fans though will be content if their boy’s try their best.

After a very entertaining Euro ‘08 Qualifying campaign, Scotland seems to have run out of steam. Their 2010 World Cup has been disaster after disaster. However, tonight they have the opportunity to turn their campaign around. All they have to do is beat the Netherlands in Scotland, which will give them a realistic chance of making the playoffs. England recently played the Netherlands and, despite a very poor English performance, they made the Dutch look like a mid table team. Scotland CAN beat them!

Fate is an unusual thing. Last time this very fixture took place. Croatia dumped England out of the Euro Championship. Approximately two years later, all England have to do is beat Croatia and be guaranteed a place in the 2010 World Cup Finals in South Africa. It is also possible that if England win, then Croatia could miss out on a playoff qualification to Ukraine.
